North Point Park Pavilion Restoration

Summary

North Point State Park is a public recreation area located along the Chesapeake Bay. The site was once home to Bay Shore Amusement Park, a popular destination for Marylanders that even featured its own trolley stop serving visitors traveling to and from the park. Over time, the amusement park closed and the site evolved into the North Point State Park we know today, while the pavilion remained as a place of refuge from the sun and elements for park visitors.
Originally constructed in the early 1900s, this historic pavilion had deteriorated due to age and exposure. To preserve and restore this important structure, the State awarded Janus Contractors the project to bring the pavilion back to life for public enjoyment. The restoration included a full roof replacement, complete concrete slab replacement with new pavers, new lighting, and structural upgrades designed to ensure the pavilion remains for another 100 years.
A unique feature of the restoration is the custom paver layout, which was intentionally designed to reflect the historic trolley tracks that once ran through the site to serve the Bay Shore Amusement Park. This thoughtful detail not only enhances the visual appeal of the pavilion but also pays homage to the site’s rich history, creating a meaningful connection between the past and present for park visitors.
